I just love prints and what better way to work a printed outfit than with Ankara (African) fabric?! Imagine my surprise (like all you fashion lovers out there) when African print started trending over 3 years ago :O.
I recall fashion designer Veronica Etro was one of the firsts to send her models down the catwalks of New York Fashion Week (S/S 2011) in gorgeous graphic African print! And then there was Asos Africa *sighs* I felt so proud of my heritage *tear drop* (lol, deep much).

Anyway, my Mum and I visited London last week and couldn't help but splurge on these beauties.
I'm looking forward to making these fabrics into clothes. I can't stop thinking about what to make out of them, literally every possible outfit has passed through my thoughts. But I think I'm definitely going to go for separates with a modern twist!! Like, a peplum top and pencil skirt combination, especially with that chocolate brown and gold-coloured Ankara (the second from the right in the first 2 photos). That fabric is a beauty, the gold colour actually shimmers almost as if it's glittery but the 'glitter' doesn't come off, if you know what I mean. It's definitely my favourite of all the fabrics. The pictures below show my previous outfits I've made using Ankara.
This jumpsuit is definitely my favourite Ankara attire I have at the moment! :) |
My Mum had this one made in Nigeria |
I've also recently started to embrace coral beads!! Apparently, my Mum's people (Delta) are famous for these. The other day my aunt joked about my wedding day, saying that she and my Mum would wear all their coral beads together on that day. Lol, can you imagine? Seriously, they have that many. I've taken some pictures of my little collection of coral beads.
I can't wait for Coral Beads to start trending.
xo, K.O.

ReplyDeleteTolu, I know they'll definitely be trending in Nigeria, but I mean here. The only place I see people wearing coral beads here in England is if I go to a Nigerian wedding or party. I can't wait to visit Nigeria tho :D
